International Visiting Professor Program Strengthens Collaboration between Mathematics and Physics Education at UIN Sunan Kalijaga

Sleman, 18 November 2025 – The Mathematics Education Study Program and the Physics Education Study Program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta organized an International Visiting Professor program as part of their commitment to enhancing academic quality, broadening global perspectives, and strengthening interdisciplinary research collaboration. The event featured Prof. Axel Kilian, an internationally recognized expert in modern mathematics from the Senior Experten Service (SES), Germany. The program was held under the theme, “Why Physics and Mathematics Belong Together in Teaching and Learning.”

The Acting Head of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Dr. Sumbaji Putranto, M.Pd., stated that the event reflects the study program’s commitment to increasing international exposure for both students and faculty members. “Collaboration with international experts provides students with opportunities to gain new perspectives while opening avenues for future research partnerships,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Physics Education Study Program, Iva Nandya Atika, M.Ed., explained that the program extended beyond a public lecture to include academic discussions and preliminary exploration of collaborative scientific publications. Students from both study programs enthusiastically participated in the interactive sessions, where they had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and discuss the applications of mathematics and physics across various fields, ranging from technological innovation to interdisciplinary research.

Through this initiative, both study programs expect to further enhance their academic quality, strengthen international engagement, and foster sustainable collaboration in education and research.
